Description

A slim, sumptuous collection of five supernatural tales set in the long shadow of Eden’s fall. Harold Billings (1931–2017) spent fifty years at the University of Texas libraries and was a noted scholar of M. P. Shiel and Edward Dahlberg. In his later years he turned to writing supernatural literary fiction, and this is one of the finest results.

Lilith, the first woman, haunts these pages, along with witches, satyrs and the apocryphal aftermath of Paradise. Billings mixes theology, folklore and a distinctly sensual strain of the occult, and the stories read like lost chapters from some heretical scripture.
