The Cypriani Magici Septem Horae Magicae — the “Seven Magic Hours of Cyprian the Mage” — was long rumoured to exist among the Iberian Books of Saint Cyprian but frustratingly lost to time, known only from a single 1888 mention by Portuguese ethnographer Francisco Adolfo Coelho, dismissed for over a century as an odd fluke — until the words Septem Horae Magicae turned up unexpectedly on a lost index card in the Portuguese National Library in 2021.

Transcribed and translated here for the first time by José Leitão, with in-depth historical and contextual analysis, this short but complex text offers instructions and recipes for consecration incenses and magical implements, explicitly non-Solomonic methods for performing a pact with the spirit Lucifuge Rofocale, and suggests a local connection to the Iberian folk figures of the mouras encantadas. A rare window into the brief, intense period when the Books of Saint Cyprian intersected with more conventional grimoire traditions.
