Description
This is the first appearance in book form of a lost novella by Max Théon (1848–1927). Théon was a shadowy figure behind the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, and with his wife Alma he founded the Cosmic Movement at Tlemcen in Algeria. The Occultist ran as a serial in the Journal du Magnétisme in 1899 and then disappeared. It has never been reprinted in French or in any other language until now.
Daniel Kennedy has made a new English translation, and Andraž Marchetti contributes a scholarly introduction. The volume also includes a second piece from the Journal du Magnétisme, “A Vision”, and a glossary of Théon’s idiosyncratic vocabulary.
This is the deluxe issue: one of just 20 hand-numbered copies, bound in hydrangea goatskin and stamped in silver on the front board and spine. The endpapers were hand-marbled for this edition by an Italian master craftsman. It was printed in Italy by Occult Press in 2025 and runs to 116 pages. There is no dust jacket, as issued.
